How to Participate
As
coordinator for the National Capital Area PAR, the American
Horticultural Society has volunteered its River Farm
headquarters as a drop-off location for fruit and vegetable
donations. River Farm is located at 7931 East Boulevard
Drive, approximately four miles south of Old Town Alexandria
on the George Washington Parkway. For driving directions,
please click here.
-
Simply plant an
extra row of fruits or vegetables, or share the harvest from
your current plot. Canned or packaged food may also be
donated but will not be considered in the total donated
weight.
-
Deliver the harvest to
the American Horticultural Society’s Education Office at
River Farm by noon on Monday between April 1 and November 1.
Be sure your donation is in a suitable condition for
consumption. There will be no refrigeration services so it
is important to have the food delivered on time to make the
weekly delivery. An AHS representative will take the food to
the Capital Area Food Bank.
-
If you do not have a
garden or would like to provide additional help, you can
make a tax-deductible financial contribution of any size to:
