 ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

The American Horticultural Society (AHS), a national nonprofit organization, seeks an experienced and creative communications professional to coordinate and enhance the organization’s electronic communications. This full-time position within the Communications Department is based at the organization’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

Job Responsibilities

  • Writing and editing content for AHS website, e-newsletters, and other online communication platforms.

  • Coordinating website and social media updates and maintenance.

  • Assisting with planning and implementation of anticipated website redesign.

  • Creating and distributing mass e-mails and e-newsletters.

  • Tracking, gathering, and analyzing user data from web/blog stats, surveys, and e-newsletter reports.

  • Coordinating the AHS webinar program.

  • Interacting regularly with AHS members and constituents and responding to or redirecting questions.

  • Serving as main point of contact for technical and creative vendors.

  • Exploring new online communication tools and proposing appropriate innovations to build the organization's online presence and foster members' sense of community.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, particularly for online media.

  • Knowledge of HTML and WYSIWYG editors such as Dreamweaver.

  • Experience with various content management systems.

  • Experience with creating and implementing e-mail newsletters.

  • Experience with blog software platforms, marketing, and writing.

  • Experience using social networking platforms to foster member/client interaction and community building.

  • Experience working with video and audio for web streaming preferred.

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, creative, deadline-driven team player who can adapt and learn quickly, particularly in regard to new software and technology. One to three years of professional experience preferred. Interest in horticulture/gardening and/or experience with the Raiser’s Edge database is a strong plus.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is based on experience and qualifications. The AHS offers full-time employees benefits such as health and dental insurance, vacation time, and access to a 403(b) plan.
