THE FRIENDS OF RIVER FARM
River
Farm, home of the American Horticultural Society, is twenty-five
acres of lawns, gardens, meadows, and woods on the banks of the
Potomac River. Situated between Old Town Alexandria and the Mount
Vernon estate, its wooded spaces and river banks are home to a wide
range of birds, including bald eagles and ospreys, and animals from
lizards to deer.
Becoming a Friend of River Farm
(FORF)
means becoming a part of a special group of people in your community
working to educate and inspire people
of all ages to become successful, environmentally
responsible gardeners. That’s not all! Becoming a FORF provides
unique opportunities to enrich your gardening knowledge and
experience. It also allows you to participate in the restoration and
preservation of River Farm.
You do not have to pay dues to become a
Friend of River Farm. You are asked to merely give some of your
time. Sixty hours annually - just 1½
work weeks spaced out anyway you like - will make you a
"Friend" and will also
earn you a full AHS membership!
With benefits which include a subscription to
The American Gardener, a copy of the Directory of Member
Benefits, which includes the Free Seed Exchange’s seeds list, and more,
the return on your volunteer efforts is most rewarding!
Volunteer opportunities include working
in the gardens, the Gift Shop, the AHS offices, on FORF committees,
at FORF and AHS events, etc. Unable to give any volunteer hours, but
still want to support FORF and AHS? You may also become a Friend by
making a minimum donation of $35 to AHS. (Donations of greater
amounts are gladly received and will assist FORF and AHS in
providing more quality programs and membership benefits.)
Please join FORF and come have some fun
with us - and if you have friends who would be interested in
becoming Friends of River Farm, please let them know about us, too!
