Membership and
Development Manager
The role of the Membership
and Development Manager is to provide organization and supervision
for the American Horticultural Society’s Membership and Development
staff, programs, and internal data systems. The Manager is
responsible for long-term planning, the production and delivery of
membership and development campaigns within budget, and working with
vendors, members and staff to coordinate efforts and ensure both
budgetary and customer service results. Primary responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Creating and
implementing membership acquisition strategies and development
campaigns from concept to data entry.
- Supervising all
membership activities including: member benefit fulfillment;
production of membership cards and acknowledgement letters;
production of renewal notices; premium fulfillment; member
correspondence and customer service; subscription agency
management; and routine database maintenance.
- Supervising all
development activities including: production of a VIP
newsletter; creation of direct mail appeals; grant
identification and application; and caging of all incoming
funds.
- Managing the Corporate
and Organizational Membership program and the President’s
Council major donor program.
- Generating statistical
reports using data from the AHS database and performing complex
data analysis.
- Overseeing the AHS
donor database. Serves as a consultant regarding required
database procedures, ensures consistency of database procedures,
and creates documentation and training for these procedures.
- Preparing annual
budgets for all Development and Membership components and
monitoring performance to meet budget requirements.
- Providing or directing
staff support for the Board of Directors Membership and
Development committees.
- Providing leadership,
as a member of the Management Team, in issues and programs
involving Membership, Development, marketing of the Society, and
technology.
According to program
requirements, some travel and evening/weekend work will be required.
Requirements for this full time position include a Bachelors degree
and 2-5 years association membership, marketing, or development
experience; knowledge of database systems, mailing requirements, and
printing specifications; strong computer skills including advanced
knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, database management, and
Internet research skills; excellent writing, speaking,
interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills; strong
customer service focus and the ability to work with staff, members,
outside organizations and the public.
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of The
Raiser’s Edge, or the field of horticulture.
