You are invited to “The Art & Science of Color in the
Garden” in Columbus, Ohio on May 11 &12, 2006.
Join Guest Horticulturist Heather Will-Browne of
Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort to learn about the
art and science of color from a horticultural
perspective. Heather will share her vast color knowledge
gained from years of designing gardens and hanging
baskets for Disney. She will also be your host as you
meet and receive personal instruction from nationally
renowned industry pros and horticultural experts.
On the first day of the Garden School, you will build a
foundation of artistic vocabulary with Heather
Will-Browne through “The Language of Color.” Jim Nau of
Ball Horticultural Company will reveal the hottest
plants in the marketplace today during “Color in the
Garden”. And you won’t want to miss Michael DeHart’s
discussion of how the J. Paul Getty Trust has been
“Capturing Plant Details Across the Centuries,” which
will expand your understanding of color in the garden.
After lunch Garden School attendees will embark on a
field study exploring colorful gardens in the Columbus
area. The day will conclude with a remarkable evening
with landscape designer and author, Julie Moir Messervy,
as you learn about “Creating the Landscape of Home.”
The study of the art and science of color in the garden
will continue on the second day as Heather Will-Browne
reveals her tried and true secrets to designing hanging
baskets with “Color at Eye Level.” You’ll expand your
plant palette with landscape architect Karen Aitken’s
talk on “Discovering Color Through Annuals and
Perennials.” Next, you’ll take an armchair tour of
American and European “Color Gardens” with Tres Fromme
of Longwood Gardens as your guide. As the Garden School
draws to a close, Tres Fromme and Heather Will-Browne
will help you make the most of your newfound expertise
with “Success with Color, Theory into Practice.”
Through a variety of presentations, demonstrations, and
specially planned activities, participants will gain
practical tips and techniques for mastering the
effective use of color in the landscape. Avid garden
enthusiasts and horticultural professionals alike will
benefit from this inspirational and informative study of
the practical application of the art and science of
color in the garden.
