WEED CONTROL STRATEGY AND DEVELOPMENT LEAD

Monsanto, an Agricultural industry leader, is seeking an
exceptionally talented Weed Control Strategy and Development Lead to
play an integral role in our Global Technology Organization as a
member of our multidisciplinary Chemistry team. Monsanto’s Global
Technology Organization is a multi-functional, multi-crop
organization comprised of five broad areas: Biotechnology, Breeding,
Breeding Technology, Regulatory and Chemistry. These areas
collaborate to create the products in our R&D pipeline, which has a
proven track record of creating products that are proprietary, first
to market, and profitable.
This role will lead the global weed control strategy development
across corn, soybean, cotton and wheat, and has responsibility for
delivering weed control systems that maintain Monsanto's leading
position, building upon the Roundup Ready platform. This role will
lead a cross functional team working with Commercial, Regulatory,
Biotechnology, and other functions to develop and help launch new
weed control systems. The Weed Control Strategy and Development Lead
will be responsible for coordinating the initial development of
Monsanto’s next generation of weed control systems.
Qualifications:
- PhD or MS with 10 years of experience in Weed
Science, Agronomy, Botany, Biology, Horticulture or a related
field
- Excellent communication, leadership,
technical, and team-building skills
- Practical knowledge of herbicides, cropping
systems and biotechnology desired
- Experience leading cross functional research
and development projects in a matrix setting preferred

The Vice President for Public Service and Outreach at the
University of Georgia (UGA) invites nominations and applications for

The State
Botanical Garden of Georgia.
The State Botanical Garden, a unit of the University of Georgia, is
a 313-acre facility located in Athens, Georgia approximately three
miles from the university campus. Established in 1968, the Garden
serves UGA’s teaching, research and outreach missions, and is an
outstanding public garden. More than 200,000 people visit the Garden
annually. Four major buildings currently exist including a tropical
conservatory. A new horticulture complex is currently under
construction. The Garden contains several major theme gardens
including the recently completed $1.8M Flower Garden along with five
miles of nature trails. The individual gardens and facilities
provide venues and opportunities for a wide range of educational
programs and special events. The Garden presently has a full-time
staff of 27, several part-time staff, and student workers, with
approximately 150 volunteers.
The Director is the chief spokesperson and advocate for the Garden,
and is responsible for fiscal, personnel and program management
including operating policies, short- and long-term planning, and
strategic goals. The successful candidate must have the ability to
articulate the vision of the Garden and have strong management,
administrative, communication, leadership and interpersonal skill to
implement that vision. He/she should have a passion for botanical
gardens, plant conservation, horticulture, environmental education
and the essential role of university-affiliated botanical gardens.
The successful candidate should have an understanding of nonprofit
organizations and academic institutions including contributed and
earned revenue. The successful candidate must possess the skills to
play a major role in fund raising and development, particularly the
ability to be the "closer" on major funding requests as well as
public and private grants needed to support the Garden and implement
the master plan. He/she must forge effective relationships with
University administrators, the Board of Advisors, the Friends of the
Garden, and other constituencies.
Masters required; an earned terminal degree in a discipline related
to horticulture, plant biology, environmental design or closely
related field is preferred.

PRESERVATION PROGRAMS MANAGER
The Garden Conservancy is looking for a preservation programs
manager to help lead its national garden preservation efforts. This
new senior position is intended to provide substantial professional
and managerial functions in overseeing and executing the operations
of the Conservancy’s preservation mission. The ideal candidate
should have demonstrated public garden management experience and the
motivation and skills to help guide the Conservancy’s preservation
projects into becoming successful public gardens.
The manager works collaboratively with the Director of Preservation
and President, and as part of a team that includes staff,
professional volunteers, garden owners and civic activists. The
manager provides leadership and technical assistance to the gardens
the Conservancy manages, advises or assists.
The manager is responsible for planning and executing the
Conservancy’s goals with its preservation projects and other gardens
receiving preservation assistance; this includes managing select
project gardens, staff and volunteers; monitoring the quality of
garden management and public visitation; guiding friends groups in
raising the funds to sustain the gardens. This position will also
help identify prospective gardens for Conservancy involvement;
evaluate requests for assistance and monitor gardens for their
preservation potential.
This person will also help develop garden preservation training
events and training handbooks for garden managers in addition to
managing the Conservancy’s fellowship training program. The manager
will also participate in developing and executing communication
strategies, including quarterly newsletter, website and electronic
communications and departmental publications.
The manager’s administrative responsibilities include supervision of
one staff position at Conservancy headquarters and off-site garden
personnel, budget preparation and monitoring, oversight of project
database and information resources, planning, reporting to
Conservancy board and committees and other Conservancy staff.
Given that the staff size is small and the workload is large,
multi-tasking and collaborative working relationships are essential
in achieving short- and long-term goals of the both the preservation
office and the Conservancy as a whole.
In collaboration with the director, who assumes responsibility for
the office’s overall direction, the programs manager will be
responsible for establishing, executing and monitoring the office’s
specific annual and quarterly objectives. An essential element of
the manager’s job is to ensure that that preservation office staff
and consultants are working effectively together.
Qualifications include a minimum of five years experience in public
garden management and demonstrated experience in organizational
development for public gardens and/or non-profit organizations.
Strong communications and interpersonal skills are a must. Microsoft
Office Suite including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint essential.
This is a full-time position based at the Garden Conservancy’s
offices in Cold Spring, NY.
